Q1: What is your name?
Heather Platter
Q2: What is your degree and department? (IE: MPH/PhD and Department)
PhD, DBCH
Q3: What position are you interested in?
Executive Board: President
Q4: What can you offer SPH students in this position?
This past year GSPH made strides to connect with students and start new academic-oriented events, such as the Academic Forum. We also hosted a 5k to support a public health organization, which raised $30,000 dollars and had over 170 participants. I will continue to find innovative ways to motivate students as well as give opportunities to learn, be active, and connect with organizations in the community.
Q5: What ideas do you have to increase student engagement?
I'd like to have GSPH continue to connect with other graduate student organizations to connect and reduce current gaps. I'd also like to increase the availability of events that represent SPH as a whole versus individual departments with the hope of increasing student engagement across departments.
Q6: Why do you want to be involved in GSPH?
This past year as President was a great experience for me. We were able to implement several new ideas as well as continue with regular events, such as study breaks. I really enjoy working with students, the Dean's office, and others involved in GSPH. I would like to use this upcoming year to build momentum off of new events we launched this year.
