1. Introduction

Dear colleague,

I am seeking your assistance with an action-based research project promoting Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), namely the right of children to be heard and have their views respected in all matters affecting them. I am delighted to announce that this project is being carried out on behalf of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) through a team that I am leading at the Centre for Rural Childhood, Perth College UHI in partnership with Perth College Development Trust.

This important project will raise awareness and develop tools to promote a wider and deeper understanding of children’s rights amongst professionals and key stakeholders whatever their present level of knowledge in relation to the UNCRC. This initial survey will help the research team to identify gaps in training and practice from which to build appropriate training materials and resources.

A vital component of this project is understanding the educational needs of professionals so as to achieve greater awareness and understanding of Article 12 and its implementation. I would therefore encourage you to participate in this preliminary survey, as your views and experiences will provide a valuable insight into how best to achieve these aims.

Thank you for your assistance,

Professor Rebecca M M Wallace
