Tattoos4Trauma, Northumberland Hills Hospital, and Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences are collaboratively launching a
peer support course-based group for people that have lost someone to suicide. This group will be offered through the Ontario Shores Recovery College.
Recovery Colleges are educational spaces that support people’s mental health and wellbeing through shared learning. They are based on a peer support model, meaning courses are co-produced and co-delivered by people with lived experience alongside professionals. What will we do?This is a supportive, safe space for – and co-created by – adults who have lost someone to suicide. Through guided, peer-led conversation, we will explore the complex emotions and social impact of suicide loss while
fostering hope, connection and shared strength.
What will we learn?
- Understanding and managing the emotional, physical and cognitive symptoms of grief
- Managing relationships and relating to others who don’t understand
- your grieving process
- Creating a self-care plan for triggers and difficult days
- Self-advocacy and setting boundaries
- Navigating holidays and finding meaningful ways to preserve memories
- Rebuilding identity after loss
Note: This is a peer-led group. It’s important to be aware of your own grieving process and readiness to participate in a group setting. Please seek clinical support if needed.
The Better Together Suicide Loss Peer Support Program will take place
virtually across 6 sessions:
Monday October 26th to November 30th
Every Monday from 5:30-7:00 pm on ZoomPlease fill out this registration form to sign up for the group. You will receive instructions on how to access the Zoom link closer to the start date of the course.
