Thank you for your interest in volunteering/interning at Hamilton Intl. Middle School Library. Please complete the interest survey that follows. Note that all volunteers/interns are encouraged to job shadow for their first shift to determine whether they would enjoy committing to the work, then are trained on-the-job for a one month trial period to confirm that it is the right fit to commit to for for the school year.

EARLY A.M. (7:30AM-7:50AM), at least three school days most weeks: Staffing the check-out desk and assisting with printing before school, most school days, with the librarian present.
LUNCHTIME (10:30-12:30) at least two school days most weeks: Monitoring the entrance and staffing the check-out desk during homerooms and lunches, to free the librarian to better monitor and help student walk-ins.
ALL OR PART OF SCHOOL DAY (7:50-2:20), some school days: Teaching research and/or media literacy lessons as a guest speaker (for current or former education and library professionals).
MID-MORNING (8AM-10AM) OR EARLY AFTERNOON (12:30-2:30PM) AT LEAST ONE DAY/WEEK MOST WEEKS: repairing books, adding items to the collection, weeding items from the collection, displaying books, inventorying collection.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER SCHOOL (2:20-2:50PM): Staffing the check-out desk and re-shelving books immediately after school, most school days, with the librarian present.
AFTER SCHOOL LIBRARY HOURS (2:30-4:30) AT LEAST 2 DAYS/WEEK: Staffing the library after school to keep it open later, without the librarian present. (Pay may be available through the YMCA Host program for Monday-Thursday only).
AFTER SCHOOL BOOK CLUB (2:30-4:30) ONE-FOUR DAYS/WEEK, most school weeks: Leading an after-school book club with just students, or students with a parent (for example, a mother-daughter book club). (Mon.-Thurs. only; pay may be available).
ONCE PER SEMESTER DURING SCHOOL HOURS: dusting all items and wiping all surfaces to reduce allergens and keep shelves clean. (For volunteers who enjoy cleaning and who are free of  asthma or allergies to dust mites).
