Activity #3: Where Would You Put It?

In this activity, you will review a series of development scenarios and indicate which parts of the community are best suited for each type of development. Sanford has a unique blend of downtown/village center, neighborhood, commercial corridor, industrial, and rural areas. Development will continue to be proposed in Sanford, and this activity will help guide where certain types of growth should occur.

For each scenario, you will be asked to select one or more future land use categories where you believe the use would be most appropriate. You will also have an opportunity to explain your choices and identify any conditions that would help make the use successful.

For each scenario:
Review the proposed use or development type.
Select the future land use category or categories where you believe it belongs.
Share why those areas are appropriate for that use.
Identify any opportunities, conditions, or concerns that should be considered.

Questions to Consider:
Which areas are best suited to accommodate future growth?
Where would new homes, jobs, services, or amenities have the greatest benefit?
Which areas have the infrastructure, transportation access, or services needed to support additional development?
Where should redevelopment and reinvestment be prioritized?
Which areas should remain largely unchanged to protect natural resources, agricultural lands, scenic character, or community identity?

There are no right or wrong answers. We are interested in understanding how community members believe future growth, investment, and conservation should be balanced across Sanford and Springvale.

Your feedback will help inform future land use recommendations, housing strategies, economic development initiatives, infrastructure planning, and conservation priorities within the Comprehensive Plan.

**ALL scenarios are hypothetical. Responses will help inform the growth strategy in the comprehensive plan, which will ultimately inform any zoning changes.**

Land use categories used in this activity are based on the draft Future Land Use Map below.
