The District of Hope (DOH) has recognized the need to strengthen its emergency management framework in response to increasing hazard complexity, evolving community vulnerabilities, and the growing impacts of climate change. Recent events across the province have underscored how quickly emergencies can escalate and highlighted the importance of having an evidence-based, adaptable approach to preparedness.
This project represents an opportunity for the DOH to align its planning processes with provincial direction under the Emergency and Disaster Management Act (EDMA), while also reinforcing partnerships with local agencies, organizations, and residents. By grounding efforts in both legislative requirements and lived realities of the community, the DOH is positioning itself to build a more resilient and coordinated emergency management program. The project will deliver a comprehensive Hazard, Risk, and Vulnerability Assessment (HRVA), examining both natural and human-made hazards. The findings will inform the update of the Emergency Management Plan (EMP).
To support its efforts, the DOH has designed a community-wide engagement survey to be completed by people who live or work in the community. The survey results, combined with established best practices in emergency management, will inform the development the EMP and related reports.
