Ohio EPA is interested in your thoughts on modernizing the title of “Wastewater Treatment Professional Operator” to a name that reflects the new expectations operators may face with water reuse and/or with the hope of recruiting a new generation to the workforce. This title change could be included with Ohio EPA’s changes to the operator certification rules that will be out for public comment later this summer.

This change will only be for the title for Wastewater Treatment Works Professional Operators as identified in OAC 3745-7-05.

Treatment works is defined in ORC 6111.01 (f) as any plant, disposal field, lagoon, dam, pumping station, building sewer connected directly to treatment works, incinerator, or other works used for the purpose of treating, stabilizing, blending, composting, or holding sewage, sludge, sludge materials, industrial waste, or other wastes, except as otherwise defined.

This does not impact Wastewater Collections Professional Operators but Ohio EPA is open to suggestions if there is a need to change that title as well.

We are hoping to hear feedback that will express the essential job operators play and incorporate new expectations. Your participation is greatly appreciated.
