Expressions of Interest for Rebus Playback Ensemble 2022
Positions available We want to get the right people to make the group work. We have funding to offer a limited number of paid positions. We may also offer several unpaid positions as professional development. Rates of pay are based on the Actors’ Award Rates.
We only have funding for 2022. We hope to be able to pay the Ensemble into the future, but that will depend upon getting more grant funding, or paid performances.
There are three roles in a Playback Theatre performance. Preference will be given to people who are able and willing to play more than one of these roles.
Actors must be able to listen to a story closely, work as a team, improvise confidently and embody the emotions of a story.
Musicians must be competent in playing one or more instruments (including voice) and in improvising and working with the actors.
Conductors must be able to talk openly with the audience, lead the performance, listen attentively, and help shape a story.
Rebus Playback Ensemble Selection Criteria: Skill in acting, improvisation, voice, movement, music and/or facilitation. This may include previous performance experience and/or training in Playback Theatre with Rebus or elsewhere. We know that saying how skilled someone is subjective, but we will use our best judgements.
Commitment, availability and flexibility. At least being available for regular Thursday evening rehearsals during school terms, and some performances and weekend intensives outside of this time. We understand that life gets in the way sometimes, but we need people who will be at almost all rehearsals.
