Activity #2: Land Use Category Character Identification

In this activity, you will review a series of future land use categories and provide feedback on the characteristics that best represent how you would like each area to evolve over time.

For each land use category, you will see a collection of words, phrases, and images that represent different development patterns, community character, and land use types.

For each future land use category (seven total):

Review the images and descriptions provided.
Select the words, phrases, and images that best reflect how you would like the area to look and function in the future.
Share additional comments about what is missing or particularly important to preserve, enhance, or change.

Questions to consider:

What characteristics best reflect the future you want for this area?
What should this area be known for in 10 to 20 years?
Which images feel appropriate for this land use category?
What elements of the area's character should be strengthened, preserved, or introduced in the future?

There are no right or wrong answers. Your feedback will help shape the Future Land Use Plan and guide decisions about growth, development, conservation, housing, transportation, economic development, and community character in the years ahead.

Tip: Focus on how you would like each area to look and feel in the future, rather than how it looks today. Think about the types of places or how it would feel to walk or drive through an area in the future.

Images shown are meant to be representative of different types of development and sizes, scales, and intensities of development. These are not images from Sanford today.
