The Firecracker Foundation is proud to partner with Ignacio G Rivera and The HEAL Project to bring comprehensive sex education as a tool to prevent child sexual abuse to the tri-county area through this incredible day-long healthy sexuality workshop on Saturday, September 29th from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

We recommend that parents and guardians bring their own teens to encourage dialogue within your relationship. However, this workshop is for parents and guardians of children of any age and/or their support people. If your teen is likely to speak to another adult in your family about their sexuality, bring them too!

Here is the agenda:

10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
“S” is for Sex: youth edition (teens 13-17)
“S” is for Sex understands sex education to be a life skill and childhood sexual abuse (CSA) prevention tool. This is an interactive workshop for any young person looking to expand their ability to talk about S-E-X for themselves, with other young people and with their caregivers.

12 p.m. - 1 p.m.
Lunch provided

1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
The Evolution of the Talk Workshop
Join us in examining sex ed as a life skill and tool for disrupting/ending child sexual abuse. At what age do parents discuss this uncomfortable but imperative topic? How do we reconstruct the social narrative on love, sex and relationships to our children without fear or shame ? How do we engage with our children in their personal and social understanding of (acceptable) sex?

Teens are welcome to stay and participate in a Teen Club session during the adult workshop from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

This training is open to the community so please register and share!

*There are other events being held at Michigan State University for adults with adult only content. This is the only event for youth and their parents/guardians and allies.
