August 31, 2023 is International Overdose Awareness Day where the lives of individuals lost to overdose are honored and awareness is raised around the impact of drug-related stigma. NYSDOH will join the collective efforts of registered overdose prevention programs, including Syringe Access Programs & Drug User Health Hubs, to raise awareness by promoting local events on an online statewide community event calendar and by promoting the Statewide Overdose Awareness Day event on September 13th.

Overdose Community Calendar
To commemorate August 31, 2023, NYSDOH will issue a press release about ten statewide landmarks that will be illuminated in purple. This press release will feature and promote local Overdose Awareness events for the online community calendar.
