Could You Have Prediabetes?

Prediabetes means your blood glucose (sugar) is higher than normal, but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is a serious disease that can cause heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, or loss of feet or legs. Type 2 diabetes can be delayed or prevented in people with prediabetes through effective lifestyle programs. Take the first step. Find out your risk for prediabetes.

If Your Score is 3 - 8 Points:
This means your risk is probably low for having prediabetes now. Keep your risk low. If you are overweight, you may want to consider joining the Weight Watchers at Work Program. It's also important that you be active most days by attending an onsite fitness facility or class or take advantage of the discounts offered by the YMCA, and if you use tobacco, participate in a tobacco cessation program. Eat low-fat meals with fruits, vegetables an whole-grain foods. If you have high cholesterol or high blood pressure, talk to your health care provider about your risk for type 2 diabetes. 

If Your Score is 9 or More Points:
This means your risk is high for having prediabetes now. Please make an appointment with your health care provider soon or schedule a visit with the Premise Health Clinic at the County Administration Building. Deductibles and copays will apply.
