Background Information

The STEM Explorer Scholarship opportunity is open to first generation students pursing a degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) at Pierce College.  Scholarship awardees may receive up to $1,500 for one year.  Up to 10 applicants will be selected for the scholarship. 

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria; You are:
·         Enrolled at Pierce College
·         Eligible for financial aid
·         Pursuing a STEM degree
·         First generation, preference will be  given to students of color

Application Deadline: November 27th, 2017 

Scholarship Details: Awardees may receive up to $1,500 in scholarship for one academic year. Award recipients will receive $500 for fall, winter and spring quarters by meeting the following requirements: 

Winter Quarter Scholarship Award Requirements:
·         Selected for the scholarship
·         Create a STEM education plan with your STEM Bound faculty advisor prior to the end of fall registration

Spring Quarter Award Requirements:
·         Participate in two advising meetings with your STEM Bound faculty advisor during fall quarter
·         STEM degree educational plan is current
·         Earn a minimum of 2.0 grade in all fall quarter courses
·         Participate in a minimum of two STEM Bound Activities during fall quarter

Summer (Fall if not enrolling Summer) Quarter Award Requirements:
·         Attend two advising meetings with your STEM Bound faculty advisor during winter quarter
·         Demonstrate progress on STEM degree Educational Plan
·         STEM degree educational plan is current
·         Earn a minimum of 2.0 grade in all winter quarter courses
·         Participate in a minimum of two STEM Bound Activities during winter quarter
·         With your STEM Bound faculty advisor complete a resume
