Brief Application Summary

Phat Brew Club Pty Ltd, a privately owned and operated craft beer collective, seek to open a microbrewery in West Perth. The proposed site for the Microbrewery is City West, 102 Railway Street, West Perth WA 6005. Phat Brew Club have agreed in principle to lease the aforementioned site with CALARDU PERTH CITY WEST PTY LIMITED AND GERALD HARVEY, pending council and liquor license approvals. Therefore, Phat Brew Club seek the grant of a tavern licence with approval for liquor to be permitted to be sold and supplied for consumption both on the premises and also off the premises for take-away.

Established in 2020, Phat Brew Club are an award-winning craft beer collective, who have been contract brewing since their inception. Please find further details and background on their homepage (https://www.phatbrewclub.com/) and the following article: https://craftypint.com/news/2708/who-brews-phat-beers. To date, Phat Brew Club have released and distributed a sequence of seven small-batch boutique craft beers, contract brewed under license at various local microbreweries. The beers have been very well received publicly on a local level, while also being recognised nationally.

The proposed 800 sqm microbrewery will be operated by Phat Brew Club, allowing progression of their brewing production and supply operation, while also providing an exciting new service for locals and tourists alike. The venue will showcase Phat Brew Club’s already extensive range of boutique craft brews, which will be brewed onsite, within the custom-designed microbrewery. Guest beers from other local breweries will also be available, with collaboration, support and promotion of the Western Australia craft beer scene being a major focus for the collective. A large range of other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available, including cider, wine and spirits, with a bias towards local producers.

The proposed venue will be family friendly with an additional 200 sqm alfresco area incorporating a children’s play area, ensuring that the demographic of the venue is mixed. Food will also be an important feature, housing a restaurant, in addition to a public bar and casual meals area, a large variety of substantial meals and bar snacks will be available. Again, there will be a strong emphasis on local produce. A café will also be incorporated, offering sit-in coffee and tea, and orders ‘to go’ via a hole-in-the-wall arrangement, which will help active and connect to the street at times when the restaurant and bar are closed. In addition to food and drink, a range of other offerings, facilities and services will also be available, including functions, local brewing events (tastings, tours and masterclasses) and merchandise sales.

Phat Brew club are seeking the grant of a tavern licence under the Liquor Control Act 1988 (WA) and hereby propose the following trading hours for both the bar and restaurant:
  • 4pm to 10pm Monday – Thursday
  • 12pm to 12am Friday – Saturday
  • 12pm to 10pm on Sunday.

To that end, Phat Brew Club are seeking feedback via the following questionnaire, which will be submitted to the West Australian Department Racing, Gaming and Liquor as supporting evidence of public interest.
