The course is aimed at strengthening knowledge and skills development in the doctoral education of universities in Africa. The course will run from 9 September to 13 October 2024.

Course Objectives

The key objectives of the Course are to:

  1. train doctoral supervisors on mentoring, supervision, and application of information skills in training doctoral students;
  2. offer high-impact research methodology training for doctoral candidates;
  3. provide skills for academic writing, publishing, and career development training and opportunities for networking among doctoral supervisors;
  4. serve as a platform for doctoral administrators to review doctoral candidate training at African universities, and
  5. mainstream pedagogical approaches in doctoral students supervision.
To achieve these objectives, the course content is divided into four modules – introduction: the doctoral context including attributes of graduateness, information competence, research methods and tools of conceptualizing research, and dissemination of research outputs.

Cancellation Policy:

Individuals: We acknowledge that sometimes you might need to cancel your enrolment from a course/training workshop. If you cannot attend or no longer require a place, please provide a cancellation notice at least 21 days before the course start date. Provide sufficient notice to avoid being charged the full course/training workshop fee. A cancellation fee will not be charged if your company nominates someone else to attend in your place or if you choose to attend the next available workshop. Please advise your institution's Human Resources Course Administrator of any changes. We require confirmation of cancellation by the delegate’s supervisor or HR Department. There will be no refunds for non-attendance of the course. If there are extenuating circumstances, then ITOCA Course Administrator should be advised of these, and the final decision will be at ITOCA's discretion.

Institutions: If your company delegates cannot attend or no longer require a course, please provide notice of cancellation of the booking at least 21 working days before the course start date. Provide notice to avoid your company being charged the full course/training workshop fee and associated costs. Occasionally it is necessary for courses/training workshops to be rescheduled. ITOCA will endeavour to be flexible towards any changes. There will be no cancellation charge if at least 21 days' notice is given and the rescheduled date for the next available workshop is agreed upon.

Course cancellation initiated by ITOCA: Occasionally, it is necessary for courses to be cancelled or rescheduled by our company. The Course Administrator will send an email to advise you of the cancellation and provide a new date for the course. We will give at least 10 working days' notice before the course starts. If a future course is not possible, all refunds will be made within 21 working days.
