Letter of Information

A. J. Haliday, Ph.D. Candidate – Process.Based.Research@gmail.com - Department of Psychology - WU

Thank you for your interest in this study of personal values and your relationship to your workplace. You are being asked to participate in this study as a voluntary participant assisting in action research conducted through citizen science efforts.  We are specifically seeking working individuals for this work.  This study has been pretested, and your voluntary participation is expected to take approximately 10 minutes of your time.

The purpose of this letter is to provide you with the information required for you to make informed decisions regarding participation in this research. We ask that you read this letter fully before deciding whether or not to proceed with the study.

The purpose of this study is to develop an assessment that accurately and reliably describes one's personal values in several specific domains as may be relevant to individuals both in and out of a work context.  Therefore we ask that you are at least 18 years of age and be currently working prior to completing the survey.  Additionally, as all participants will be expected to complete questionnaires written in the English language, we also ask that all participants be able to fluently communicate in the written form of the English language. If you do not meet these stated requirements, you are ineligible to participate in this line of research and will be excluded from participation in the study.

Your responses will remain confidential and will be used for research purposes only. Your name will not be associated in any way with the information that you provide. All information will be kept confidential and will be destroyed after your participation in the study is terminated. All information will be kept in a secure, locked location where only persons conducting this research will have access. All electronic data will be temporarily stored on a secure server associated with Survey Monkey and (encrypted) working copies of this data will only be made to perform the required analysis at the end of the study.  Individual results of scale scores will only be released upon request of the participant and only upon the provision of an agreed upon survey password.  Such release is entirely voluntary.

Participation in this research is entirely voluntary.  Please, only participate in this study once.  The risks involved in participating in this study are minimal and are associated with possible self-reflection that may result from reading survey statements. However, it does not appear to be beyond that of everyday life experience. If, for whatever reason, you think you are feeling upset or feel the need to contact someone for support during or after your involvement in this study please log on to http://www.yourlifecounts.org/need-help/crisis-lines to find a local distress line that you can contact for further assistance. Your participation is entirely voluntary. You are free to omit answers to questions and withdraw from the study at any time without penalty.

Participants may benefit from the study by assisting in the production of an instrument that they themselves may someday use or benefit from.  Society may benefit from this research by developing a more thorough understanding of personality that stems from future research using this instrument.

Completion of the survey indicates your consent to participate in this research.

All analyses will be conducted on aggregated data, not individual responses. If the results are published your name will not be used.  Your responses are private and confidential. If you would like to receive a copy of any potential results or if you have any questions or concerns please email the researcher (Process.Based.Research@gmail.com).

Thank you.
