The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) requests your attendance to present your views and make recommendations regarding the draft State Plan for the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, also referred to as Perkins V.  These comments will inform revisions made to the Plan prior to its submission to the U.S. Department of Education.

Anyone interested in the future of Florida's workforce is welcomed to attend, particularly teachers, faculty, specialized instructional support personnel, paraprofessionals, school leaders, public chartering agencies and charter school leaders, employers, labor organizations, parents, students, Indian Tribes and Tribal organizations.

On July 31, 2018, the President signed Perkins V into law (Public Law No: 115-224). This law reauthorizes the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006. Perkins V reflects the 100-year federal commitment to career and technical education (CTE) by providing federal support for CTE programs and focuses on improving the academic and technical achievement of CTE students, strengthening the connections between secondary and postsecondary education, and improving accountability.

Perkins V went into effect on July 1, 2019, and the first year of implementation is considered a transition year. Full four-year state plans, covering all the requirements of the Act, will be submitted in Spring 2020 encompassing program years July 1, 2020-June 30, 2024.

Visit the FDOE Perkins V website for further information on Perkins V implementation in Florida.

Registration is not required.  It is, however, requested in advance to provide appropriate accommodations.
