About the Skin Investigation Network of Canada (SkIN Canada)

Skin conditions are a leading cause of overall disability and death in Canada. Despite substantial contributions to skin research by Canadian researchers, much of the work is conducted in relative isolation by a dispersed research community. The Skin Investigation Network of Canada (SkIN Canada) will expand skin research expertise, create new collaborations, and enhance skin health through innovation. We have brought together patients and an interdisciplinary team of leading researchers and clinicians across the country who are tackling the mechanistic, clinical, health systems, and population health questions for a broad range of skin conditions.

Disease Areas of Focus
There are three disease areas on which the network will focus. However, we expect that connections made among patients and researchers through SkIN Canada may also lead to interesting research questions and additional projects outside of these three disease areas of focus.
  1. Inflammatory skin conditions
  2. Wound healing, skin fibrosis and regeneration
  3. Skin cancer

We are looking for people living with skin disorders - or caring for those who do - who are interested in research to become Patient Research Partners. We are looking for 14 Patient Research Partners to help shape skin disease research in Canada.

The CSPA is looking for 14 Patient Research Partners to help shape skin disease research in Canada:

  • Patient Advisory Council (PAC) - 6 patients, 3 of whom will also serve on the Steering Committee
  • Biobanking Committee - 1 patient
  • Canadian Network for Skin disease Trials (C-NeST) Management Committee - 2 patients
  • Knowledge Translation Committee - 1 patient
  • Training Committee - 1 patient
  • Working Groups on each of the disease areas of focus of SkIN Canada
    • Inflammatory Skin Conditions - 2 patients
    • Wound Healing, Skin Fibrosis and Regeneration - 2 patients
