Please share your thoughts on how you relate to Central Square — specifically arts and culture spaces, and small businesses — in the survey below!

The Community Development Department (CDD) is continuing its work to update zoning for Central Square! In 2024, the community and City Council gave input on potentially rezoning Central Square. From that input, goals and priorities were developed. In this survey, we want to hear more about which goals are most important and how you use Central Square.

What is Zoning?
Zoning are the rules for what can be built where. This includes the size of a building, how close it is to the street, and what uses the building can have. Zoning can address some, but not all, of the goals we heard from the community. There are other tools outside of zoning that can be used to address other goals.

What's next?
The Community Development Department will continue gathering feedback from the community. This information will inform CDD's recommended changes to the zoning. CDD will then bring those recommendations to the City Council Housing Committee. If Council supports these changes, CDD will create a zoning petition that — after a public hearing process — could be adopted as the new zoning for Central Square.
