Share your student debt story.
Borrowers' voices are often silenced. Stigma, lack of oversight, and systemic complexity are frequently prevent the inclusion of the experiences, perspectives, and needs of borrowers in decision-making around student loan policies and programs.
At MDC, we want to give voice to the borrower experience. On this form, you'll have the opportunity to answer a few specific questions, as well as share your story in your own words.
We'll use the information you share here to push for the changes you hope to see: We hope to use these stories to build out our base of evidence for the need for systems change. Some potential ways we might use the information include: shareable products such as infographics, one-pagers, or issue briefs; administrative advocacy opportunities such as in public comments, sign on letters, or requests for information from government agencies; on our webpages or online resources; social media posts; policy products shared with the public or directly with decision-makers; or in messaging to our network. We also will use any patterns or themes we identify to help direct our work to make resources or identify policy priorities.
You'll maintain control of your story, even after you share it with us: We won't use your name or any other personal identifying information without your permission. If you don't want to share your name, we do not make that question required - but in order for us to best communicate with decision-makers, they need to know that the information they receive comes from real constituents. Anonymous stories are still valuable, but can't be leveraged in the same ways. As mentioned, we will not use your story attached to your name or any other information without your permission, so if you do share your name, rest assured you will always have control of where and how it's shared. Typically, we would only use a first name and last initial unless required to use a full last name.
