Local Authors @ Broward County Library Guidelines
In partnership with The Florida Center for the Book, Broward County Library (BCL) is proud to announce Local Authors @ Broward County Library, a new program at the regional libraries throughout Broward County. Regional libraries will display a limited number of local titles selected and added to the collection.

Local Authors Considered for the BCL Collection
The following guidelines apply to titles considered for the BCL local author collection:
  • The author must be a BCL cardholder
  • The author must be self-published
  • The author must be a Broward County resident
  • The book must be adult fiction, memoir, poetry, or children's book
  • The book must be in excellent circulation condition (e.g. sturdy bound, sewn, or glued)
  • The author must agree to donate a review copy
The following guidelines apply to title selected for the BCL local author collection:
  • The author agrees to donate at least 2 circulating copies
  • The author will provide a copy of one authentic positive review (e.g. Amazon, Publishers Weekly review)
  • The author agrees to assist in marketing their book while it is a part of the BCL collection
Local Authors Selected for the BCL Collection
Broward County Library reserves the right to reject donated titles. The Library is not responsible for lost or damaged titles. The Library will not act as a sales agent, nor should the author expect the Library to purchase books in bulk to sell on their behalf.

If BCL selects the author’s title, it will:
  • Be added to the library collection and available for circulation at Northwest Regional Library (NO), North Regional Library (NR), West Regional Library (WR), Southwest Regional Library (SW), South Regional Library (SR), Main Library (MN) or the African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AF)
  • Have a photocopy of the book cover on display at either regional library
  • Remain in the library’s collection for one year from the date added to the collection
Selected books will rotate out of the collection and may be permanently withdrawn after one year, unless they maintain regular circulation. Broward County Library will weed titles permanently added to the collection or donate them to the Friends of the Broward County Library.
