Public Spaces Protection Orders

No drinking in Public Spaces (Town Centre)

Safer Watford, Watford’s Community Safety Partnership, is holding a consultation on the renewal of the Public Spaces Protection Order preventing the consumption of alcohol in public spaces.

There is already a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) in place 24 hours a day, restricting alcohol consumption in public areas within the defined boundary, including parks, play areas, cemeteries, footpaths and other open-air public spaces.

This gives Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and authorised officers the power to require individuals to stop drinking alcohol and surrender open alcohol containers, with failure to comply potentially resulting in a fixed penalty notice, court summons or a fine of up to £500.
