Learning Objective:
1) Describe concepts underlying use of AAC and its importance in meeting communication needs for individuals with complex motor, sensory, and communication impairments including cerebral palsy and other neuromotor conditions. 2) Understand the importance of the feature matching process as a strategy for selecting and implementing appropriately matched AAC systems that best support a client’s current communication and access needs. 3) Demonstrate knowledge of current low-, mid-, and high-tech AAC options, including tablet-based applications and dedicated communication devices, along with potential resources for funding these tools. 4) Identify language features, access settings and peripherals to support an individual’s physical and sensory needs to allow for successful use of AAC systems.
