ECCV Mental Health project consultation - Policy professionals

The purpose of this consultation is to understand your experience and/or knowledge of diverse communities and how we can improve access to culturally responsive mental health services/support.
This will inform a discussion paper that expresses the views of service providers, policy makers and individuals with lived experience.
All information provided here will be deidentified.
Your permission will be sought should ECCV wish to publish a case study and/or use specific quotes.
This survey should take about 45 min of your time.

1.Please tell us a bit about your role and experience working with multicultural/diverse communities?

Here are some prompts to consider:
·     How many years have you been working with, developing policy for multicultural communities/diverse communities? Which communities would they be?

·     What are/have been the priority policy areas you have worked on for multicultural and diverse communities (relating to mental health service access and provision)?

·      What can you tell me about the research that has informed policy development in this area/s?

2.How does your organisation support diverse communities to address mental health needs or access mental health services?

·       What has been the focus of the policy papers written by your organisation?

·       What do you believe should be the priority improvement areas in regard to multicultural and diverse communities mental health?

·       What is your understanding of the  common challenges for diverse communities in accessing mental health services?

·       From a policy perspective, how do you think these challenges could be addressed? Do you have any examples of good practice?

·       From a policy perspective, is there a need for workforce changes or improvements?

·       What specifically are the workforce needs to improve service provision and access to services? Do you have any suggestions or examples of how this may occur in practice? 

·       What do organisations need to have in place that enables it to respond to the mental health service needs of multicultural communities? How does your organisation monitor or assess service provision?

5.What is your understanding of cultural safety/cultural responsiveness?

·       How can organisations ensure that models of care do not stereotype and include cultural consideration for multicultural consumers?

·       What do you think is a practical way to monitor access to and use of services by the multicultural community?

·       Does your organisation / Do you have any examples of systems or processes that enable culturally safe and responsive service provision? (Can you share an example of best practice?)

·       We are presuming there are staff recruitment and retention challenges. What are your thoughts on this?  What are the main factors that impact recruitment and retention? How can this be addressed?
