As a board member you will contribute to the governance of the organization, providing leadership, oversight, planning, ideas and networks so that we continue to grow, engage our stakeholders and continually enhance our brand and reputation within the communities we serve. In return, you get to directly enable critical supportive programs for newcomer and refugee women with a dynamic and committed team.
We are seeking multiple board members, each with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Previous board experience
- 5+ years of fund development or fundraising
- stakeholder/ donor development and engagement
- 5+ years of financial expertise including risk assessment and financial sustainability
- an entrepreneurial lens or experience with social enterprise
The following are some of the qualities we’re looking for in a board member:
- You have lived experience as an immigrant, newcomer or refugee.
- You think critically and are comfortable working at a strategic level.
- You bring a depth of understanding in economic inclusion and development.
- You have strong written and verbal communication skills, are comfortable networking and building relationships.
- You work from a feminist, anti-oppressive perspective, and are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Time commitment
On average, 6 - 10 hours per month. Board members are encouraged to attend hosted events and expected to attend monthly board meetings, planning sessions and meetings of the society.
