Policing and Public Safety Modernization Initiative

Your voice shapes our community’s future

The Policing and Public Safety Modernization Initiative, initiated in response to the Special Committee on Reforming the Police Act's recommendations, represents a pivotal step in reshaping policing culture and addressing systemic racism in British Columbia. With insights garnered from diverse stakeholders during the committee's inquiry, the resulting report underscores the need for community-informed policing. This historic initiative offers community-based organizations, advocates, and stakeholders the opportunity to actively participate in a systematic review of BC's policing and public safety landscape. The project's threefold goals—fostering collaboration, amplifying lived experiences, and harnessing community expertise—aim to cultivate strong partnerships, prioritize diverse perspectives on police interactions, and tap into local knowledge to inform reformed legislation. Through these engagement sessions, the initiative aspires to lay the groundwork for more responsive and inclusive policing strategies, fostering increased public trust and enhancing the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they serve, with a particular focus on the unique needs of Indigenous, People of African descent, racialized, and intersectional communities in the region.
