Information for Graduate Students

Dear Graduate Student:

Congratulations on your accomplishment in pursuing graduate education in nursing. This is an information letter to inform you of a leadership opportunity and to encourage you to consider applying for this nursing traineeship. There is a nurse traineeship in pediatric pulmonary that is available to one graduate nursing student each year.

This traineeship is planned to supplement the UAB School of Nursing requirements with advanced training in leadership and interdisciplinary care of children with pulmonary conditions. The trainee participates in a variety of classroom and clinical experiences within the Pulmonary Division of the UAB Department of Pediatrics at Children's Hospital.

Trainees receive tuition assistance, a monthly stipend, and travel/continuing education monies. The traineeship is offered through the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) of the Health Resources and Services Administration. UAB is fortunate to have one of the six Pediatric Pulmonary Centers (PPCs) funded nationally by MCHB.

This is a wonderful opportunity to work closely within an interdisciplinary team with advanced practice nurses, physicians, social workers, respiratory care practitioners, nutritionists, family leaders, and other health professionals of related disciplines. We care for children with chronic and acute pulmonary conditions in outpatient and inpatient settings.

As the nursing faculty for the PPC, I hope you will consider this opportunity carefully. The Traineeship is designed for the graduate student who is able to have reduced work obligations and can commit additional time and energy toward this leadership training program. I would be delighted to talk with you further if you are interested in learning more about this leadership traineeship or would like to apply.

Best Wishes,
