Thank you for your interest in the Hawai‘i Branch of the International Dyslexia Association (HIDA) and the Susan Walker
Kowen Scholarship.  This scholarship has been created and funded through the generosity of individual donors in
recognition of Susan’s commitment to advancing the purpose of the International Dyslexia Association in Hawai‘i and
her dedicated 20+ years involvement and leadership with HIDA.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide scholarships to train individuals to work with and advocate for children with
dyslexia and/or related learning disabilities. Priority consideration is given to classroom teachers who would be unable
to receive the necessary training without financial assistance. Further, applicants must have:

~   An expressed interest in further educating himself or herself regarding dyslexia and/or related learning disabilities

~  A commitment to advancing the interests of children and adults with dyslexia and/or related learning disabilities

~  A potential to impact the larger community with the knowledge acquired

~  Financial need
