The faculty members for the Academy are all experienced SIOs and will be present for all Academy sessions. The 2020 Academy faculty include Dr. Pia Wood (University of North Texas; past AIEA president), Dr. Penelope Pynes (University of North Carolina, Greensboro; past AIEA president), Dr. David Di Maria (University of Maryland Baltimore County) and Dr. Harvey Charles (University at Albany, State University of New York; past AIEA president). Additional speakers will include Dr. Darla K. Deardorff (AIEA).
Each faculty member will chair topical sessions, and all will contribute to each topic. There will also be three sessions set aside for presentations and small group discussions among the participants to apply the knowledge to their own institutional contexts. Through the Academy, participants will gain valuable knowledge and insights into how to lead comprehensive internationalization at their institutions. Upon successful completion of the Academy, participants will receive a certificate of completion issued by the Association of International Education Administrators.
Participants are requested to arrive on Monday afternoon, May 4 in time for an opening dinner at the Rizzo Center (Hyatt) on Monday evening. The following Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will feature two working sessions each morning and two sessions each afternoon. Breakfasts and lunches are provided. No group dinners are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be a closing Academy dinner on Thursday night at a leading restaurant in Chapel Hill. Friday morning will feature a session for presentations by participants and the awarding of certificates of completion, after which participants will be free to depart (no sooner than 12 noon).
