During the summer of 2021, we piloted the Accelerated Practice Readiness Education Program (PREP) to a small group of students. Accelerated PREP is a 14-week condensed version of the nine-month PREP. The pilot program was a success and CPLED is now in the process of collecting stakeholder feedback to determine interest for future Accelerated PREP offerings across our four jurisdictions.

During the nine-month PREP, students complete their Bar admission program concurrently with articling. In Accelerated PREP, students must dedicate a full day of study, five days a week, throughout the program. Students enrolled in the Accelerated PREP are recommended not to be assigned work from their firms while completing the program.

Once students complete Accelerated PREP, they are then able to focus solely on their articles. From the Principal’s perspective, knowing their student has completed their Bar admission program eliminates the need to schedule and balance PREP with firm work for their articling student. Accelerated PREP helps students support a better work/life balance because they are not juggling PREP and their articles simultaneously.

Offering both the nine-month PREP and Accelerated PREP will provide students and firms with the flexibility to choose the delivery option that best suits their needs and preferences. However, we need your feedback to determine if there is sufficient demand to add Accelerated PREP to our regular program offerings in Alberta, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and Saskatchewan.

We appreciate your time in answering the short survey below.
