Environmental Surface Testing Solution

Since the pandemic COVID-19 outbreak in early 2020, several studies have demonstrated that SARS-CoV-2 can spread from person-to-person and through contact with surfaces where droplets and aerosols are deposited.  The virus can remain viable and infectious for some time (up to 72 hours).

Companies, universities, governmental agencies are seeking solutions to minimize risk/employee exposure as they bring them back to the workplace.  Environmental surface testing is one method to assess exposure appropriately. And one that companies can respond with sanitation and other corrective measures to protect employees and customers.

PerkinElmer’s real time RT-PCR kits offer high sensitivity, accuracy and specificity in the detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA and have been validated specifically for environmental surface testing with swabs. This surface testing capability can offer assurance of effective cleaning and precautions.

Biosurveillance of Wastewaters and Sludge Solution

High demand for Coronavirus testing kits and the logistical challenge of testing every human globally  have fueled a movement by researchers, scientists and public health officials to examine alternative ways to gather public health data within the context of COVID-19. A known and popular public health surveillance method is through wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE).  WBE has been utilized to measure the presence and concentration trends in pathogens in humans as well as providing near real-time information on human consumption of drugs, establishing exposure to certain chemicals, and incidence of specific diseases in populations. Epidemiologists are continuing their work in WBE to add more rigor in assessing fingerprints of human activities in wastewater.

PerkinElmer’s real time RT-PCR environmental testing solution enables quick identification of “hot spots”.  This solution offers high sensitivity with low limits of detection for viral presence, scalability to address evolving sample volumes and requirements and high level of confidence in a solution from a provider with expertise in viral detection and environmental testing.
