Please help us plan a safe and effective return to play

Dear OWSC Families,
As you know, OWSC is currently studying the safest way to return to soccer after the COVID-19 pandemic.  The situation remains fluid, and we will of course continue to monitor guidance and communications from MYSA, TCSL and statements from the State of Minnesota such as:
https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/coronavirus/schools/youthsports.pdf

Meanwhile, we want to understand the views and perspectives of our players and families in order to help with the planning process and to make sure our return is as seamless as possible.

Right now, we are considering some version of a phased return, meaning that we will move in stages once conditions and guidance permit.  Details are still pending, but the general concept of the phases is as follows:
  • Summer Training - Individual on-field training (U12+ only); Age-based training, no recreational level training, no team training, continue virtual training
  • Small-sided - Small group training; All ages return, re-unite designated teams, inter-club small scrimmages
  • Full Training/Matches - Large group training; Full team training, matches, no tournaments
Right now we are beginning Preseason training and are considering when and if to move to Small-sided training. As you answer the questions below, please share your perspectives about play in an environment where teams are returning to small group training, and social distancing and sanitary measures will be enforced.

Again, we understand that the situation is fluid and your thoughts may change.  You are not bound by these answers, and you may answer differently if the situation changes - we completely understand but want to get a sense of your perspective today.

To be clear - our first priority is the safety of our players and their families. Each family can and should take whatever steps they feel are appropriate to their situation, and should feel no pressure to return to play before they are ready.  We are simply trying to gather information at this stage.

Thank you so much for your feedback, we will do everything in our power to help make the eventual transition proceed smoothly, and we are truly grateful for your thoughts, time and perspectives.

Sincerely,
OWSC Board and Staff
