RSVP: LGBTQ Health 101 & 201 |
PLEASE NOTE NEW DATES!!!!
Harvard Medical School's Center for Primary Care and Office for Diversity Inclusion & Community Partnership invite you to join us for two sessions on LGBTQ health. Our goal is to ensure primary care settings be a principal place to deliver care to LGBTQ patients, not referring out to specialists or “special” primary care providers.
LGBTQ Health 101 will take place on February 27th, 2017 and LGBTQ Health 201 will take place on March 27th, 2017. Both sessions will run from 5:30-7:00pm and take place in the Amphitheater of the TMEC Building, located at 260 Longwood Avenue in Boston. Refreshments and networking will follow the event.
"LGBTQ Health 101: Terminology" will provide guidance on language and identities with a focus on humility and an acknowledgement that language and identification are variable across a number of factors. We will also use this opportunity to coach health professionals to avoid making assumptions, to become comfortable with not knowing everything, and to invite patients to illuminate their identities and life experiences as a crucial first step in building holistic caring relationships.
"LGBTQ Health 201: Inequities" will explore the health inequities faced by the LGBTQ community, highlighting the role of adverse childhood experiences as well as stigma and discrimination and using an intersectional lens. We will discuss the implications of these inequities in clinical care, as well as innovations in clinical care (e.g. harm reduction, trauma-informed care case examples, and informed consent).
