Introduction

In response to the recent proliferation of “template” designs for accessory dwellings in municipalities across Ontario—and the suspected misinformation accompanying them—OAA Council determined that an evaluation of these new design catalogues and their impact was needed.

On May 19, 2026, the OAA convened a roundtable discussion on House Design Catalogues attended by members of OAA Council, the Policy Advisory Coordination Team (PACT), and the Communications and Public Education Committee (CPEC). The discussion focused on what, if any, actions the OAA should take regarding design catalogues beyond the regulatory bulletin issued in January 2026.

You are encouraged to participate in a short survey to share your insights and thoughts about design catalogues. Together with the information gathered at the Roundtable, your feedback will help the Association determine what additional action and outreach it should take regarding these catalogues.
