Bloomfield is organizing a farmers’ market/open market for the 2022 summer/fall season. In
order to make this a well-designed market that fits the needs of Bloomfield residents, we are
conducting a short survey to find out what Bloomfield residents think.
The information shared will be passed on to all who would like to participate so that they can
submit a proposal to potentially become a vendor for this market. The survey may shine a light
on gaps in the market, where new and existing producers can fill this need and boost their own
potential.

Tell us what you think!

Question Title

* 1. Are you satisfied with the current availability of food products in town?

Question Title

* 2. Where do you get most of your food currently? Supermarket? Foodbank? Local farm or farm
stand? Co-op, community garden, or small private farm? Your own or friend’s backyard? Any
other sources? List all that apply.

Question Title

* 3. Would you be interested in acquiring some of your food from an open market in town?

Question Title

* 4. The proposed day and time are Thursdays 3-6pm. Is this potentially a good timeframe and day of the week for you?

Question Title

* 5. The two locations being considered are the Human Services Building on Park Ave and the First Cathedral on Blue Hills Ave. If you checked “No” above, is it the day, timeframe, or location that are not ideal? Check all that apply:

Question Title

* 6. What would you like to see there that you cannot find easily in the area? You can be as detailed
as you like. For example, there may be vegetables that are used in dishes that cannot easily be
found in supermarkets. Please list.

Question Title

* 7. Would you like to be a producer and/or vendor? If so, what would you like to make/sell?

Question Title

* 8. A farmers’ market/open market can offer more than simply foods grown on the land. A vendor
may be someone who makes items as a cottage industry on their property such as soaps,
clothing and accessories, condiments, kitchen utensils etc.
A product with integrity is one that seeks to avoid forced or unpaid labor in the production of
any parts of the making of the product, for example, sourcing of primary ingredients, textile
production, wood sources and so on. Plastics may be okay, if the plastic is a recycled material
that would have otherwise gone to the incinerator. Upcycling is strongly encouraged and
packaging a large part of the item’s integrity.
A discussion on supply chains and healthy sourcing of materials and labor is being proposed for
October or November to talk about how we as consumers produce and consume goods. Would
you be interested in attending this free discussion where you can learn (and teach!) if it can
help us all become better vendors and consumers?

Question Title

* 9. What days and times work best for you for this discussion?

Question Title

* 10. The more information you provide, the better we can design a successful farmers’ market. Is
there anything you would like to share here in this survey?

Question Title

* 11. Optional: Name and contact info:

Question Title

* 12. Optional:  Bloomfield seeks to become an age-friendly community. Are you over 50?
