Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development - Feasibility Study and Business Case for an Eastern Ontario Local Food Aggregation/Distribution Centre
The sourcing and consumption of locally grown food is gaining popularity throughout Ontario. Beyond the economic benefits, the development of food hubs strengthens local communities, improves the rural-to-urban linkages, shortens the distance that our food travels and improves community access to fresh and healthy foods. Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development (PKED) wishes to better understand the local food supply chain in Eastern Ontario and has commissioned a business case study to be completed to evaluate the potential for a Food Aggregation and Distribution Centre to be located in Peterborough County to serve the Eastern Ontario region. This study aligns with PKED’s ‘Future Ready’ strategic plan to expand the agriculture sector in Peterborough County.
To assist with the feasibility evaluation, PKED is surveying food producers/processors, distributors, wholesalers and retailers that are operating in Eastern Ontario. The information obtained will help to assess demand, evaluate the volumes and types of food produced and distributed within the region and identify gaps and opportunities.
We invite you to participate in a short online survey (approx. 10 minutes to complete). Individual responses will not be identified.
