Preliminary Questions
Questions 8-12 will be scored as part of your final interview. Make sure you thoroughly answer these questions.

* 8. Explain in detail any past or current leadership experiences that you have had and how those experiences could relate to the Resident Assistant role.

* 9. How well do you handle difficult situations? As an RA you may encounter many difficult situations that you may, or may not, be prepared for. Give an example of a time you dealt with a difficult situation and how you handled it.

* 10. The RA role requires weekly time commitments such as meetings, committees, programming, duty, and unexpected resident issues. How do you balance school, work, self-care, and other commitments? What strategies or techniques do you use to manage your time?

* 11. What is a quality that separates you from the other candidates or that only you can bring to the housing community?

* 12. If you were selected to be an RA, what would your preferred living community be and why?

Current communities include: Sierra Terraces, Valley Terraces, Half Dome, Cathedral And Tenaya, and the Heritage Apartments (off campus).

Availability

Should you be selected to move on to the next step in the process, you will be contacted by email to enroll in a mandatory 3 week group process course, and to schedule an interview time, date, and location.

References

Please provide two references. One must be a current or past UC Merced RA.
References should be professional in nature, individuals who can attest to your readiness for the RA position. Examples of good references might include former/current supervisors, faculty, or organization advisors. Family members and close personal friends should not be listed as references.

It is professional practice that applicants first ask an individual for a positive reference, before listing them.
