Survey on Wine Industry Recovery Trajectory

We understand that growers have experienced short-term losses due to bud damage and more serious long-term disruptions where trunk damage, virus, or disease has required vine removal and replanting. These impacts are expected to stretch across multiple years, influencing both production volumes and financial viability.

This survey seeks to build a more detailed picture of vineyard recovery trajectories in the wake of these disruptions. To inform future policy and program design, we are collecting data on replant activity, yield recovery expectations, and anticipated production volumes over the next few years.

All responses will remain confidential and will be analyzed only in aggregate.
1.How many acres do you operate (rounded to the nearest acre)?
2.What is your total grape production (in tons) in a typical year (i.e., prior to the cold events)?
3.Please report the number of acres replanted or scheduled to be replanted in each of the following years (rounded to the nearest acre):
4.For newly planted vines, what percentage of a typical mature yield do you expect to realize in each of the first five (5) years?

Please answer using % of Typical Yield (0% = no crop; 100% = full crop)
5.For vines that are still in the ground but are scheduled to be replanted in a future year, what percentage of a typical crop do you expect to harvest from these vines in the years before they are replaced?

Note: We're asking here about the productivity of vines that are still in use but are no longer healthy or reliable, and which you plan to replace in the coming years. We understand this may vary by block or year. Please provide a rough average across your operation.
  • For example: You may plan to replant 5 acres in 2026, but those acres are still in the ground for 2024 and 2025. If those vines are damaged, you might only expect 20% of a normal crop from them in those two years. We're asking for your general estimate of that partial yield.
