2025 Cover Crop & Sustainability Survey

This survey is being conducted to better understand the realities of cover cropping, crop rotation, and other sustainability practices on PEI potato farms. This is the 7th year for this survey. Survey results will be used to benchmark the adoption of and grower interest in sustainability practices. The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

We are requesting farm names only to ensure that multiple responses per farm are eliminated. Please only provide one survey response from each farm. Individual responses will not be shared or distributed in any way. Only aggregated totals/averages will be shared. Individual survey responses will not be shared with any outside agency, business, or government department.

From all of the survey responses, one respondent will be chosen at random to receive a free soil sampling probe (approx. value $250.00). Two other respondents will be entered to win $50 gas cards. To be entered into this draw, please provide your name and email address at the end of the survey.
1.What is your farm name? (Used only to avoid duplicate responses per farm)
2.In what region of the province are the majority of your acres located?
3.How many acres of potatoes did you grow in 2025?
4.How many acres of crops other than potatoes do you farm in rotation with potatoes? (This includes crops grown on your land by other farms). Do not include your potato acres in this number.
5.What percentage (%) of potato acres were seeded with a cover crop after potato harvest? (includes fields with seed broadcasted immediately before digging)
6.What percentage (%) of acres destined to be planted to potatoes in 2026 had a green cover crop this fall? This includes cover crops applied after tillage or fields with living covers not tilled this fall.

Do not include fields that have been ploughed/tilled or sprayed with Round-Up this fall without a cover crop seeded after, or where a cover crop did not grow due to late planting.
7.How many acres of the following full-season rotation crops did you grow in 2025? Best estimate is sufficient. This includes rotation crops grown on your land by another farmer.
