March 2017

Dear Parents/Guardians of PECMHA Hockey Players -

Each Spring the Association Executive comes seeking your help to improve the Association's offerings for members.  In 2016 it was decided to set-aside the annual coaching survey given the issues and reluctance of people to provide their honest feedback.  The material has always been anonymous, but we quite understand the objections.  In 2017 the focus will again be on some of the activities and how we can make PECMHA the most it can be.  The Executive listened last year and made changes to what was Monday Night Powerskating; Local League; and Practice Length.

There are some general questions about coaching staff, but they are not to the same extent they have been in the past.  We are providing a box that you can share more detailed information if you wish and you can be assured it will be presented without the author's name.  The process is about improvement and accountability. Not sharing is not making our Volunteers better; and blind criticism is not productive either.

Thank you in advance for completing the survey.

* 3. HOCKEY SKILLS:  Members asked for a couple of changes last year.  Specifically longer sessions; trying to avoid Monday Nights (which was often the third or fourth Hockey Day in a row.  The Executive issued a Request for Proposal from providers of hockey skills and power skating (and Goalie Skills) in an area from Cobourg to Kingston.  It was a comprehensive 3-page document where they made suggestions on length; use of ice; number of skaters; ratio to instructors, etc.  After one year of doing it this way (and making it mandatory for Rep Players) the Executive is interesting in your responses.

The new approach was an improvement?  Carry on with it.
We would like to continue, but focus more on.... please add comments below.
We think the money spent on skills would be better as a team level decision made by Coaches?
We were ok and adjusted to the 'not every week' same time scheduling?

Question Title

* 4. Local League Question. If you played REP (BB or AE) please skip this question.

As you likely know, PECMHA was informed last Spring by the governing body that we could not continue with a Quinte Local League (Napanee; Stirling; PEC; and Quinte West).  We were told to play within our own organization OR join and existing Local League and given 3 options.  Following a member survey the Executive opted into the ICHL (Inter-Community) which offered the least driving and the option to have an East and West Division.  We are interested in your view on how things went this season.  On the whole our teams had some success.

Did Not Like OK, but it can be improved on (elaborate below) Liked it Really like it Not Applicable
The general set-up with home and away games with other centres?
The re-ranking of teams to ensure suitable competition during round robin?
The experiment with a trial round robin format for final six weeks of inter-league play?
