Welcome to the 2022 Gorse Pedal & Pull, a fun new event brought to you by the Coos Watershed Association, Gorse Action Group, and other local partners. The Pedal and Pull is a mountain bike competition where the winner is not measured in time but in CGTDP (Cumulative Gorse Trunk Diameter Pulled). Gorse is a huge problem at Whiskey Run--come be part of the solution!!

How will it work? We'll have a course set up and send out teams with a weed wrench, loppers, Pulaski, and gloves. When a team pulls a gorse plant, they will use a smartphone to take a photo of the gorse with a transparent ruler overtop. Reasoning: if you've ever touched a gorse plant, you will know they are very sharp and would not be safe to carry while biking! A team member will will then pedal through the course to the Weed Panel for photo assessment and tallying. When the biker returns to the group, another plant can be pulled and another picture relayed. Prizes have been donated by local businesses such as Front Street Community Bike Works, South Coast Bicycles, Bandon Bicycle Works, and Moe's Bike Shop.
