By participating in this program, you will have a positive impact on the environment. The compost created from your food scraps will help nourish soil health, increase water absorption capacity, reduce material being sent to a landfill, and help fight climate change.

This free service is voluntary, and residents must sign up. All Kiawah Island residents are invited to join!

This form will take about 10 minutes to fill out. Upon completion, you will:

-Learn how the program works
-Know what items are accepted for composting and what items should be left out
-Receive the lock code to open the food scrap carts so you can start composting!

All program details are available at: www.kiawahisland.org/composting

Question Title

* 2. Name

Question Title

* 3. Street Address where food scraps are being collected (we will consider new drop-site locations in close proximity to participants)

Question Title

* 4. Alternate or secondary email or phone- If there is another way, besides your email above, you or someone in your household would like to receive updates.

Accepted Items vs. Unaccepted Items

Unfortunately, if any food scrap carts have evidence of non-accepted items in them, the *WHOLE CART WILL BE LANDFILLED* and not composted.

Contamination is a major issue in any compost program because nobody will be sorting through the material collected. (Ew, that's gross!)

You can help make sure all the food scraps collected will be composted by knowing WHAT'S IN and WHAT'S OUT.

Should I Pour Food Scraps in Cart Loosely, or Use a Compostable Bag Liner?

This is your preference, either are accepted. However, any bag used MUST BE certified compostable, from BPI. (BPI=Biodegradable Products Institute)

Note, product labels can be misleading. Those bags labeled "biodegradable" or "environmentally friendly", etc. without the BPI certification ARE NOT ALLOWED.

These will not break down fast enough to compost and will cause an entire cart to be landfilled. An FAQ on the website has more information if interested.

* 13. Can I put BPI certified compostable liner bags in the food scrap cart?

Question Title
