Antimicrobial Stewardship Training Available for Health Professionals

My name is Naomi Weier, and as part of my PhD studies I am conducting research investigating antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) training programmes available to health professionals around the world. Definition of AMS for this study:

Antimicrobial stewardship involves planned activities and interventions that promote and support the judicious use of antimicrobials, and aims to reduce antimicrobial resistance.

What training programmes are we interested in?

·         Postgraduate courses/programmes offered to health professionals that are/want to be part of an AMS team and/or are/want to be involved in AMS on a daily basis. These courses must have a significant component devoted to AMS (the programme may be completely focussed on AMS or may also offer other subjects – eg. antimicrobial prescribing – as well as AMS).  For a course to be eligible, at least 50% of the course content must be devoted to AMS.

·         Courses/programmes that are currently available regionally/nationally/internationally and DO NOT have restrictions (eg. can only be accessed by health professionals in a certain region). The course may be offered in any format (eg. face-to-face, online, distance learning). Below are some of the examples of the courses we are interested in:

1. The ESGAP Antimicrobial Stewardship Course (https://congresscare.com/en/congress/esgap-antimicrobial-stewardship-course/)

2. The Antimicrobial stewardship: optimization of antibiotic practices online course provided by Stanford University: http://online.stanford.edu/course/antimicrobial-stewardship-optimization-antibiotic-practices

3. The Antimicrobial stewardship: managing antibiotic resistance online course offered by University of Dundee/The British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy: https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/antimicrobial-stewardship

What training programmes are we not interested in?

·         Courses/programmes that are only available for local health professionals and excludes wider participation such as local hospital programs OR courses/programmes that do not have at least 50% of contents directed towards AMS such as courses dedicated to infectious diseases or antibiotic prescribing only. For example:

·         The Antibiotic Therapy in Practice course provided by ESCMID (http://www.antibioticscourse.com/)
