Since that survey, the Porto Cima Deer Management Task Force has been formed to evaluate and recommend strategies for addressing deer-related issues within the community. The Task Force has met several times and, additionally, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) conducted two deer surveys:
- October 29, 2025: 14.4 miles surveyed, 92 deer counted, estimated 82 deer per square mile
- November 19, 2025: 12.4 miles surveyed, 92 deer counted, estimated 95 deer per square mile
These numbers are well above normal deer populations of 0–30 deer per square mile. The areas with the highest populations appear to be Grand Point and Turn Bridge.
The cost of a deer cull is approximately $5,000 per night. The POA has budgeted $5,000 toward this effort. If residents wish to move forward with a USDA-managed cull, additional funds would need to be raised by residents.
