Trinity Lutheran College is asking for staff, parent and student feedback and input on potential DROP and STRIDE zones to be installed in 2019.
What are they?
DROP and STRIDE zones are a place away from the school where parents can safely drop their children. Children will then walk or ride a short distance to school together with other students also using the zone.
The zones will consist of a signed drop off and pick up area to be used at specific times of the day with a clear walking/riding route to the school.
Note: We do not encourage unsupervised riding for children under 10 years of age.
Proposed zone times:
Morning: 8.00-8.20am
Afternoon: 3.30-3.50pm
Why are we trialling these zones?
To reduce traffic congestion in school zones: Congestion at schools during drop off and pick up times sometimes results in poor and illegal behaviour of some drivers. This in turn increases frustration and jeopardises the safety of students and other road users.
To promote increased physical activity for children and parents: National physical activity recommendations suggest that for optimal health benefits, children should accumulate 60 minutes or more of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day involving mainly aerobic activities, and adults should accumulate at least 30 minutes or more on most days of the week.
To reduce environmental impact and improve social connectedness: Travelling to and from school via active travel reduced air pollution and the environmental impact that cars can have. It helps create healthy habits for children early in life, connect them with their peers and provides a platform for families to connect with other families who are also using the zone.
We are seeking your help to develop this trial by completing the survey below.Any and all feedback is welcome.
