The purpose of these awards is to recognize outstanding research literature in the field of biosurveillance, as judged by ISDS membership.

Deadline: July 10, 2017, 11:59 pm ET

All nominated articles related to biosurveillance or of interest to the ISDS Research Committee, published in May 2016 through April 2017. Early publication articles (e.g., online only) are eligible.

Judging Criteria:

Impact on field of biosurveillance:
  • Potential to change the way that surveillance is practiced
  • Potential to attract scientists from other disciplines
  • Educational value to a broader audience
Scientific achievement:
  • Innovation of methodology or application
  • Rigor of methods and quality of scientific writing
Awards Process:
  1. Articles from the initial pool that receive nominations as well as all other nominated papers will constitute a short list which will go to the Awards Committee.
  2. The Awards Committee will review the short list and narrow it to 3-6 articles (per category), using a scoring rubric and considering frequency of nominations during the initial call.
  3. Finalists will be announced and distributed to ISDS members for voting.

NOTE: For convenience, the articles have been categorized into one of three categories: 'Epidemiology,' 'Informatics,' and 'Data and Analysis.' Each category is listed on a separate page of the survey.
