Presented by:  Originally from Greenville, Dr. Edney is a summa cum laude graduate of both William Carey University and the University of Mississippi School of Medicine-Class of 1988 and is board certified in Internal medicine and Addiction Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia and has been in full time active practice in adult primary care medicine since 1991 in Vicksburg, MS. Having developed an interest in chronic pain and addiction and the management of complications from chronic opioid use, he has become ABS board certified in Addiction Medicine and has been active in this field both as a teacher and clinician since 2014 and serves as the addictionologist for both inpatient and outpatient addiction medicine programs. He is the founder and volunteer medical director for R12 Recovery Ministries-Vicksburg, and has an interest in disaster response medicine and short term volunteer medical service internationally. He is a Past-President of the Mississippi State Medical Association and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Laureate of the Mississippi Chapter of ACP. He is the grateful husband of over 36 years to Lori and they are the proud parents of three adult children and one wonderful grandson.
Target Audience:
This activity is intended for internal medicine, family medicine and primary care physicians and advance practice clinicians.

Learner outcome(s):

1)  Self-report knowledge gain related to evidence based guidelines for providing risk factor identification and implementation of preventive care in the primary care setting.
2)  Self-report knowledge gain of important pathophysiology concepts common to the care of patients using pharmaceuticals, describe the pharmacology of common medications, select the proper pharmacotherapeutics based on clinical presentation and incorporate evidence-based changes into practice.
3)  Self-report competence gain and an intent to utilize evidence based guidelines and accepted practice in the prescribing of medications with an emphasis on controlled substances.
