Survey of Key PAC Priority Areas - Fall 2025

The Canadian Audit and Accountability Foundation currently has short-term funding from the Government of Canada through the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) to support effective oversight and accountability in Canada through audit and the oversight bodies that receive audit reports.

This is largely due to the efforts of public accounts committees (PACs) across Canada acting in unison through the Canadian Council of Public Accounts Committees (CCPAC). As part of our ongoing discussions with TBS, we are identifying priority areas to support oversight and accountability in Canada in the coming year.

We would like to hear from you. Please take a couple of minutes to answer the following questions to help us identify key priorities within the PAC community in Canada.

Creating a standardized committee procedural manual that can be adapted for use by PACs across Canada.
Engage with regional PAC communities internationally to share Canadian good practices and vice-versa.
Developing and carrying out a public relations awareness strategy and campaign to promote the role and value of public accounts committees in Canada.
An annual PAC good practice award to recognize committees that are making significant strides in improving their effectiveness.
Capacity building (training and resources) for municipalities to strengthen oversight and accountability for local government.
Support for the Canadian Council of Public Accounts Committee, when requested by the host and the executive committee, in carrying out its mandate.
Support work being done on fiscal relationships and accountability in Indigenous communities.
Capacity-building support to other oversight committees of the legislature that review audit reports.
Information to political staff on the purpose and role of oversight committees, so they can support members assigned to the PAC.
Training and support for public servants appearing before PACs so they are effectively prepared to answer the committee’s questions and provide the required information.
