Leader Development Institute (LDI) programming employs many concepts from transformative learning (TL) theory (click here to learn more about transformative learning). Experience has shown that some individuals may struggle with certain TL principles such as self-directed learning, self-reflection, and critical discourse. To help determine how well your needs and expectations might be met through LDI, please complete the brief 15-question survey. Upon completion, your answers will be scored. Please write down your score as you will be asked to enter it into your LDI application.

Survey adapted from Halupa, Colleen. (2017).

Click the "Done" button below to score your responses and remember to write down how many points you scored as you will be asked to report that number on the LDI application.  (You can disregard the percentage as it is irrelevant).

How to interpret your score:
  • If you score >43, you will likely be familiar with and and enjoy the learning strategies employed in LDI.
  • If you score between 30 and 43, some of the learning strategies may be new and uncomfortable to you, but you should have no problem succeeding with sufficient motivation and dedication.
  • If you score less than 30, there's a good likelihood that you'll struggle with some of the ambiguity and self-directed nature of LDI. Please contact Michael Negrete at mnegrete@plei.org before submitting your application.
