The Alliant Energy Center is a valuable cultural, social and economic asset to Dane County and Greater Madison. Throughout its 100-year history, the Center has generated substantial economic impacts and contributed greatly to our quality of life. However, community needs and market analyses have shown great potential to increase these benefits and that a failure to begin making improvements will diminish this asset and create a fiscal burden. Accordingly, the Dane County Board established a Master Plan Oversight Committee to develop a market-driven, financially sustainable plan, which was completed at the end of 2018. Implementation of the first phase of that redevelopment is currently underway, including pre-design work on an expansion of the Exhibition Hall, the creation of a central plaza, relocation of one show ring and the addition of parking and a ring road.
7.How familiar are you with the discussions related to redeveloping the Alliant Energy Center campus?
In addition to redeveloping the Alliant Energy Center Campus, there is a parallel effort to examine opportunities for re-imagining the 500-acre gateway encompassing the entire Alliant Energy Center campus and adjacent areas. This vision for creating a “Destination District” includes activating a currently underutilized portion of the city, enhancing the transportation and connection around and between the city’s south side and downtown, and improving stormwater management and other environmental features in the area.
